Abstract
Within the yearly Italian Report on Migrations (2011 edition) realised by the ISMU Foundation – the main Italian scientific institution on migrations and interethnic cohabitation – this chapter focuses the attention on migrants’ insertion in the Italian labour market. After a synthesis of the major European and international trends about economic migrations and their regulation, it analysis the most recent data concerning migrants’ labour forces, employment and unemployment, describing the impact of the economic recession on both migrants and autochthonous workers. Finally, it develops some considerations about the future governance of economic migration in Italy and in Europe.
