Abstract
This chapter presents an investigation on the productivity of words derived
from -sc- verbs attested in Classical Latin, as a way of adding to the rich debate
on their semantic significance. The work is performed through the use of
empirical data provided by the Word Formation Latin lexicon, a derivational morphology
resource for Classical and Late Latin. After a brief introduction on the issues
regarding -sc- verbs, the derivations with -sc- verbs in input are taken into
consideration and analysed by word formation type. The results of this examination
are discussed with special emphasis on quantitative as well as diachronic and
semantic data.
