What can partially de-contextualized objects tell us? Insights from the Athenian Acropolis

Risultato della ricerca: Contributo in rivistaArticolo

Abstract

The bronze vessel fragments found on the Athenian Acropolis have been studied mainly from a stylistic point of view, to understand the shape of the original vessels, their chronology, and their area of pro- duction. However, they also raise interesting questions as to their original location (on the Acropolis or not), the place they were found, and the reason why they were discarded there. We intend to highlight the data that can be offered by such objects, for which only the general area in where they were found (the Athenian Acropolis) is known, without any further information about the stratigraphic or depositional contexts.
