Abstract
(Welfare) State, market, family and community/civil society are classically considered the four\r\npillars of a welfare system. The specific mix of public and private responsibilities involved in the\r\nproduction of welfare, as well as the model of governance adopted define each welfare system.\r\nThe question of the role of the state and other sources of well-being has long been the subject of debate and is now pushing towards a more collaborative and inclusive governance. On this issue, the Magisterium continues to be a key reference due to the centrality given to the principle of subsidiarity.
