Abstract
The article explores the challenges and opportunities of a long-lived society, with a focus\r\non Italy, where life expectancy is among the highest in the world. It examines the impact\r\nof ageing on social structures, intergenerational relationships, and generational equity.\r\nEmphasis is placed on the urgency of adopting a positive view of longevity, introducing\r\nconcepts like malleable age and prospective age, which help counter age-based\r\nstereotypes and foster stronger ties between generations. The vital role of grandparents\r\nin children’s socialization and the influence of family relationships on quality of life are\r\ndiscussed. The article also addresses emerging social inequalities and the need for\r\npolicies that ensure greater generational fairness. Finally, it calls for reflection on memory,\r\ncourage, and patience as essential values for building an inclusive and sustainable society\r\ncapable of meeting future challenges.
