Abstract
As known, the soil plays a fundamental role in providing ecosystem services.\r\nThe present work is a part of a wider interdisciplinary research concerns on the effect\r\nof urban and periurban land use changes on soil carbon stocks, in order to\r\nevaluate the potential contribution of the land use transformation in the mitigation\r\nof CO2 emission. We present the preliminary results of a case study in the municipality\r\nof Imola. In particular we have investigated the soil characteristic of several\r\nareas currently classified as "artificial green areas" but characterised by a different variation in their land use. These preliminary results can allow the validation and\r\ncalibration of a methodological approach that can be extended to different spatiotemporal\r\nscenarios and that can support sustainable development territorial\r\nchoices.
