Abstract
The contribution analyses the charters issued by the monastery of Sant'Ambrogio in Milan concerning its land patrimony. Through a comparison with the documentation issued by other Milanese institutions and by the monastery of San Pietro in Ciel d'Oro in Pavia, the aim is to demonstrate how vassal ties constituted only a minimal part of the contracts stipulated in 12th century Lombardy, while perpetual livellar contracts on economic corrensponsion and through the guarantee of a notarial deed were much more widespread.
