Abstract

As one of the most vulnerable categories in the complex scenario of contem- porary human mobility at the global level, UAMs pose a challenge to EU countries and their ability to really guarantee the fundamental rights of the child and support the weakest members of society. In the chapter, after drawing a picture of them in Italy, results of a qualitative research are presented. With reference to the desk analysis, the main sources at national and international levels were considered in order to highlight best practices, discrepancies among national contexts, shortcomings and funding or intervention needs. Afterwords, 15 international experts were interviewed .Two set of questions were prepared: the first regarding UAMs seeking asylum, and the second focussing on UAMs who were not seeking asylum. Several important issues came out from the content analysis of the interviews.
