Abstract
The juxtaposition of two very different anniversaries, the 40 years since the foundation of the Italian Review of Legal Medicine and Law in the Healthcare Area e and the 100 years since the so-called "Spanish flu", allows us to reflect on the paths of memory and the cognitive distortions that govern them. In particular, the influence of thinking as “hawks” (rather than doves) ie the tendency to frame reality in a dichotomous and opposing manner, which applies a “warlike” framework to social situations, with the construction of an “enemy” to be criminalized. Such an attitude, towards which pushes the current culture of resentment and complaint, can be a serious hindrance to the correct understanding and treatment of important social, legal and health care problems (as it was in 1919) and in particular to that interdisciplinary approach which, ahead of its time , inspired the foundation of this Review.
