Abstract
Reggiani’s volume falls within a line of studies that in recent years has seen renewed interest, namely the history of the Christian Democracy, with a focus on Carlo Donat-Cattin, a key figure of Italian political Catholicism who occupied central positions in national and party decision-making processes. Set against the complex political and economic context of the 1960s and 1970s, Reggiani traces the governmental action of Carlo Donat-Cattin, beginning with his appointment as Undersecretary for State Holdings in the Moro government and extending to the end of 1978, when he concluded his term as Minister of Industry to assume the role of Deputy Secretary of the Democrazia Cristiana, in a clearly turbulent period following the assassination of Aldo Moro, when the question arose of whether to continue the rapprochement with Enrico Berlinguer and his party.
