Trevor Pinch’s legacy for media studies

It is well known that throughout his long and brilliant career Trevor Pinch was a leading scholar in at least three research fields: the sociology of scientific knowledge, the field of science and technology studies and the field of sound studies. However, the work of Trevor Pinch, and in particular the Social Construction of Technology (SCOT) approach has also been influential for media studies. In this article I will clarify the role played by SCOT in the disciplinary tradition of media studies, and to retrace the tenets of Pinch’s own take on media.
