Abstract
The article addresses the potential of a cognitive-functional\r\napproach to the pedagogy of Standard\r\nMandarin Chinese as a second language, focusing\r\nin particular on the containment linearization underlying\r\nvarious regularities in the Chinese word\r\norder. This tendency is also akin to a variety of sociocultural\r\nparticularities in the Chinese world, and\r\ncan therefore be exploited during instruction to\r\npresent learners with cultural insights and reflections.
