Abstract
The article addresses the potential of a cognitive-functional
approach to the pedagogy of Standard
Mandarin Chinese as a second language, focusing
in particular on the containment linearization underlying
various regularities in the Chinese word
order. This tendency is also akin to a variety of sociocultural
particularities in the Chinese world, and
can therefore be exploited during instruction to
present learners with cultural insights and reflections.
