Abstract
The techniques to excite and detect mechanical transients in nanostructures using time-resolved microscopy are briefly reviewed. This research is of importance for photodynamic processes that exploit the photo-mechanical action directly on bio-objects or on nanostructures that have diagnostic or therapeutic interest in biology and medicine.
