Abstract

This study examined the self-disclosure in 31 female adolescents with the goals of 1. identifying vocal markers of self-disclosure 2. examining how listener sex affects speech. Each subject participated in two sessions with two friends (one male and one female). In each session, the girls were asked to read the formal consent ( baseline utterance) and engage in free personal conversation. At a certain point, the collaborator confided something intimate and asked them to do the same. At the end, each participant uttered an experimental utterance. The two utterances were acoustically analyzed. The results show that self-disclosure has a typical vocal profile. Two different profiles of self-disclosing profiles were found based on the recipient's sex.
