The Mutual Relation of Positing and Presupposing in the Logic of Essence

This paper intends to clear up the radical difference between the movement pertaining \r\nto Being and the one which is peculiar to Essence. Since Hegel characterizes the latter \r\nas “reflection” such an aim is pursued through a detailed examination of the pages \r\nspecifically devoted to this notion in the first section of the Logic of Essence. The \r\nconception of a self-related negativity shows itself to be the main feature of Essence: it \r\nplays a leading role in all the forms of reflection (positing, external, determining) and \r\nis the real ground for the well-known refutation of classical logic which is contained in \r\nthe following chapter of the Logic of Essence.
