Abstract

Through a comprehensive and complete treatment, the book describes the fundamental concepts of project management, explores traditional and emerging best practices, and summarizes and suggests the integrated use of traditional predictive methodologies with iterative and incremental (lean and agile) ones.\r\nThis guide aims to help project managers succeed in the most complex and challenging projects in contexts of profound uncertainty caused by continuous innovation and change. The text takes a highly practical approach: providing readers with innovative frameworks to become active in the practical use of the various techniques presented and glossing over some of the theoretical content provided by the methodologies but not widely used by those who practice project management professionally.\r\nThe first chapters cover the basic concepts of project management, together with the organizational aspects most closely related to it.\r\nThe typical “life cycle” of a project is then introduced, according to traditional (or predictive) methodologies, and the concepts, tools, and techniques typical of each phase of the life cycle are discussed.\r\nLean and agile methodologies are then introduced, exploring three frameworks: Kanban (lean type), Scrum (agile type), and Scrumban (a mix of the two); these frameworks are undoubtedly among the most widespread and used, especially in projects with a strong innovative content.\r\nThe most advanced approaches are also illustrated, based on customized hybrid methodologies and the use of generative artificial intelligence.\r\nFinally, the last section introduces “THE” Approach, a dynamic approach to project management characterized by a guided adaptation process to adopt hybrid methodologies, improving them with the power of Gen-AI.
