Abstract

Children in foster care are a vulnerable population who are removed from their birth parents' homes chiefly for reasons of abuse and neglect. Children may also be removed from their birth homes for juvenile crime, serious parent-child conflict, or the need to treat serious physical or behavioral health conditions which cannot be addressed within the family. Pediatricians, as advocates for children and their families, have a special responsibility to evaluate and help address these needs.the paediatrician, with knowledge of the child’s medical and family history, may assist the social service and judicial systems in determining the best setting to help the child feel safe and health.
