Abstract
The article, which is the lecture of the author at the XXII World Congress of the International Society for Labour and Social Security Law, deals with collective bargaining decentralisation from a comparative perspective. The author investigates the reasons for this trend, its pros and cons. After focusing upon the situation in the European Union, where decentralisation is also fostered by the dynamics of the competitive federalism under construction, he concludes that centralised decentralisation could be a means to combine solidarity and competitiveness in an uncertain economic environment.
