Abstract
Hasan al-Basri writes to the Omayyad Caliph 'Abd al-Malik to defend the belief in free will and human responsibility on the basis of the Qur'an. A famous pseudo-epigraphical treatise, probably composed in Mu'tazilites circles around the year 1000. Full translation of the shorter recension of the text.
