Abstract

The book is a broad-ranging and up-to-date reference resource featuring an overview of the key topics and research areas in the contemporary study of lexicography. The Companion consists of twenty contributions written by experts worldwide, including lexicographers, corpus linguists, computational linguists, academics working in relevant disciplines and software developers, ‘who are at the cutting edge of lexicographic research’ (p. 3). A strong emphasis on the user perspective characterises the volume as a whole, and reflects one of the most prominent features and trends of modern-day lexicography. As a reference work, this volume complements other works that detail practical and theoretical issues of the major sub-areas of lexicography. Even if one could argue that in the Companion there is a general predominance of English and other European languages, this is a coherent and stimulating volume and a worthy addition to the series.
