Abstract
In this paper I argue that a sharp distinction between formal (or functional) and non-formal (or lexical) terms is untenable, even in logic. At most terms can be arranged on a continuum which starts with the least formal and content rich and ends with the most formal and content poor. Formal terms will refer to very general relations
