Abstract
The Church invites us to guarantee to all humanity the benefits deriving from the earth’s resources and to future generations the possibility of enjoying them. Soil, from which food is produced and that offers the beauty of the landscapes and nature, is a scarce resource. However, soil is exploited and deteriorated by unsustainable agriculture and, moreover, it is consumed by infrastructures, services and - a fundamental right of people - housing. Therefore, among the greatest challenges of our time there is the fight against the abuse of soil caused by anthropogenic activities and the search for its sustainable use, so as to reconcile the needs of humanity with the safeguarding of its ecosystem functions.
