Abstract
This modelling in plant pathology: state of the art work is an overview of the knowledge and applications of epidemiological models in agriculture, with particular emphasis to their uses in warning services for plant protection. Different approaches in formulating epidemiological models in plant pathology are available, and the resulting systems are characterized by different levels of accuracy and robustness. Nowadays many mechanistic models exist for both field and orchard crops. Recently, a research project funded by the Emilia-Romagna Region was aimed to extend and improve the application of epidemiological models in crop protection. The real time warning system allowed to reduce the fungicides application, i.e. for grapevine powdery mildew, of 40% in average over the three years, maintaining a regular production.
