Abstract
Based on recent scientific literature on status among peers, the chapter describes the main dimensions of social status (i.e., social preference and perceived popularity) within the peer group, focusing on childhood and adolescence years. Development of studies on social status, methods to assess status, and concurrent and longitudinal correlates of status dimensions are examined.
