Abstract
This essay takes into consideration how Emanuele Severino judges the relations between Moritz Schlick and some members of the Vienna Circle, as Otto Neurath, about the nature of “protocol sentences” in order to provide an unshakeable and indubitable foundation of all knowledge. They can be verified by an intersubjective control, but they are only conventional and therefore relative and not absolute. Schlick, on the contrary, finds this foundation in the Konstatierungen (confirmations, observations), i.e. statements a person makes about his/her own experiences.
