Abstract

The volume responds to the need to reconsider the striking phenomenon of female lyrical production, starting from the founding experience of Vittoria Colonna, within the evolution of lyrical language throughout the 16th century. The collected essays move from the figure and work of the Marchioness of Pescara to explore her 'surroundings', in search of a possible 'Colonna function' in the history of mid-sixteenth-century lyric poetry.
