Abstract
Person and education identify foundationally constitutional elements of a pedagogical reflexion and the reference to the value of the person and
to the various contexts of the educational experience relentlessly recur through the book. The volume outlines the reasons for an environmental education which aims at the analysis of the relation between human training and the environment with respect to diverse historical and social
aspects, by considering the challenges posed by the sustainability of
economical development and of political decision making.
A “green” pedagogy is at stake, in order to learn and to be trained to
a planetary citizenship and to share the resources of the earth. A lifelong
education, between ecology of the environment and human ecology, demands
to everyone an active commitment, onto which the blossoming
of commonweal crucially depends.
The choice of the testimony (towards good life, equitable institution)
and of the care (for others, in view of the respectfulness for the
natural environment) individuates the person as an act of educational
discourse, as a complex harmony of the promising identity within the
heart of production technology and of power frameworks, of sign systems
and of self-edification. Person and education are conceived as a
possibility and attestation of ulterior meanings, research and discourse
which can be entrusted to human truth.
The great challenge of our time is to create ecologically sustainable
communities, in which we can satisfy our needs and aspirations without
diminishing the chances of future generations.
