Abstract
One of the most diffuse and stressful experience caused by the immigration is the prolonged experience of separation between parents and children. But also the process of family reunification can be a source of personal and relational problems for all the family members, especially for children recalled by their parents in the host country.
A qualitative research has been conducted with a sample of South American children recently arrived to Italy; the findings reveal that sense-making of the whole process of reunification is needed in order to enhance a more favourable adjustment to the new social and family environment and to gain a more balanced and wishful future orientation. Implications for social practitioners are discussed.
