Abstract
In the long history of the study of coin iconography, in more recent times there has been an increasing need to focus on the recipients of the 'dialogue‘ mediated by images and words impressed on the coinage. The purpose of this focus is to test the effective communicative capacity of coin types and legends from the users’ point of view. The paper aims to examine it regarding a specific subject of imperial coinage, namely the representation of Spes on two sestertius issues of Claudius
