title = "Reflections on the Theme of Veronica",
abstract = "In this article, the theme of Veronica - the woman who wiped the face of Christ on the way to Calvary - is explored as it appears in different text types throughout the centuries. Images and texts referring to Veronica occur in all European languages and a Veronica textual corpus is hypothesised, to mirror existing Veronica corpora in art (e.g. www.veronicaroute.com). In the Veronica corpus, which is in the process of being built, extracts from texts in English which mention the episode are included. Future research areas investigating attitudes to the episode and the emotions it evokes are envisaged.",
