Abstract
In this essay the item -RED will be analysed in order to follow its evolution from being a noun RǼDEN(N), which was freely used in Old English with the meaning of ‘condition, stipulation, rule, direction, reckoning, estimating’ to its becoming a suffix denoting the condition of being something.
