Abstract
In Reason, Truth and History (1981), after the shift from metaphysical realism to internal realism, Putnam worked out a theory of rationality as a power which not only limits itself to ratifying the faithfulness of our representations of the world, but as the power which contributes to building the world. He claimed that being less realistic about physics and less subjectivistic about ethics are two strictly inter-related positions. As a consequence, Putnam opts for internal, thus rejecting the correspondence theory of truth as well, so as to redefine it as “an idealization of rational acceptability”.
