Abstract
The paper analyzes the narrative trasformations of the smart city concept in the Italian debate. In particular, it shows the shift from a techno-entrepreneurial conception to an intelligence-enabling conception of smart city. The first conception is characterized by the adoption of technological innovations to increase urban visibility and actractiveness. The second is focused on a more open and ambivalent narration of urban development based on the relationship between the enabling role of technological innovations and collective intelligence provided by smart citizens at urban level.
