Abstract
The implicit dimension is a crucial component of communication; it operates alongside explicit components, both verbal and non-verbal in nature. Often the decisive factor in a communication event lies precisely in what is not said, and it is up to the interlocutor to find access to it by means of inferential processes. Here, the focus is on how the implicit dimension is decisive for interpreting questions that arise in everyday conversation.
