Abstract

Potential physical abuse in preschool children fathers and mothers. This study compared some psychological characteristics (personal distress, parenting stress, parenting alliance and perception of child adjustment) of preschool children father and mothers at low/high risk of child physical maltreatment (measured by Abuse Scale of Child Abuse Potential Inventory Form VI - CAPI). Participants were 59 parents at high risk of physical maltreatment (score ≥ 166; experimental group) and 59 at low risk (score < 166; control group), matched to age, status, education level, children age and gender. Results show that two groups are very different in all examined variables: parents at high risk of physical maltreatment have higher levels of personal distress and parenting stress, lower levels of parenting alliance and evaluate child behaviors as more problematic that parents at low risk of physical maltreatment.
