Abstract
The Italian process of female education and professionalization was extremely complicated. Since early times women have been considered the “angels of the hearth” and they were not expected to work. This situation started to change between the XIX and XX Centuries, when women gradually became more involved in the social, cultural and professional context. In this period, they gained access for the first time to wage-earning works: not only traditional jobs, as teaching or midwifery but also modern professions, as journalism.
