Abstract
The essay analyses the time-lapse videos connected to pregnancy, in the perspective of the presentation of self and one’s own identity on YouTube. The selected user-generated contents, also because of their peculiarity in terms of compression and time manipulation, represent the most visualised content of several channels dedicated to domestic vlogging.
The observation of the phenomenon starts from a quantitative analysis whose purpose is to map the visual regime of the contents. Afterwards, a qualitative analysis has been carried out on a selected group of videos in order to define the generative process and the communicative coordinates on the rhetoric of the authenticity of YouTube, negotiated between public sphere and perception of private life. The data contributes to define the social dimension of the practices which were analysed, the homogenisation and the peculiar overview of similar videos in the widest dynamics of vlogging.
