Abstract
An overall picture of the philosophical personality and works of the peripatetic philosopher Praxiphanes of Mytilene, also known as ‘of Rhodes’, which can be reconstructed only from fragments and testimonies. He was called ‘first grammarian’ and was a key figure of the branch of the peripatetic school in this island that flourished already in the generation following Aristotle and had important contacts with the literary and grammatical activities of Alexandria. His activity was mainly critical-literary, but he also dealt with other philosophical subjects.
