Abstract
The aim of this study is to examine terminological variation in the field of textile fibres in French from the 18th century to the present day, with a focus on two communicative situations: production and marketing. The analysis is conducted on a corpus comprising different text types, published in the specified period. After a presentation of the theoretical framework and methodology, a typology of textile fibre names used in production (chemical names, code names, etc.) and marketing (brand names, trade names, etc.) is proposed. In addition, different types of references involved in creation of these terms are analysed in order to formulate hypotheses about their motivation.
