Abstract
Regarding some recent Polybian studies this paper aims to reaffirm that 1) Polybius was a non- religious man lacking in any teleological view of history; 2) in spite of his assertions his pro-Roman attitude was not quite different from that of Callicrates; 3) Polybius’ praise for the translatio imperii to Rome is without reserve; 4) Polybius’acts in Greece were connected with the necessity to please the Roman senate, but his historiographic work was completely free, because what he was writing did not matter at all among the Romans.
