Abstract
The contribution examines the issue of ‘neglecting evil right away’ and thus of forgiveness in some of the events of Athenian political history of the late fifth century BC, linked to the policy of Thrasybulus of Styria. Such ‘forgetfulness’ does not, of course, coincide with Christian mercy, but still it implies an interior disposability to overcome the desire of revenge, towards which traditional ethics carried, in the name of a higher instance, which is the unity of the community of the city.
