Abstract
The work on the critical edition of the “Liber Figurarum” of Joachim of Fiore (†1202) is presented. It is a collection of diagrams and symbolic images made by the Calabrian abbot, who, however, in all probability never thought of collecting them into a single thoughtful work. The origin and function of these images, which have been increasingly clarified in the course of a research undertaken now for several years, as well as their particular nature and configuration, suggest particular solutions for the realization of the edition. Working hypotheses are presented, and solutions adopted previously or for similar cases are discussed, starting precisely from the nature of the object itself, as it can be outlined at this now very advanced point of the research.
