Abstract
The first two Books of the Maccabees report events related to the crisis that emerged following the political and religious choices of Antiochus IV Epiphanes. 2 MAccabees focuses on the work of Judas Maccabaeus, and at same time gives great emphasis to thoso who, in the time of persecution, have faced torture and death with courage in order to rpeserve pwn social and religious identity. Among them is the gesture of elder scribe Eleazar, who choiced to die in order to leave the youth an exemple of loyalty and consistency.
