Abstract
Purpose: Engaging patients in their health care\r\nmanagement journey has emerged as the requirement of\r\nthe patient-centered care. Considering as an evidencebased\r\nmeasure, The Patient Health Engagement Scale was\r\ndeveloped to evaluate patients’ emotional, behavioral, and\r\ncognitive competences during their care. This study aimed\r\nto assess the psychometric properties of PHE-s in Turkish\r\npatients with chronic diseases.\r\nMaterials and Methods: In this methodological study,\r\none hundred and fourteen inpatients with chronic diseases\r\nwere recruited in June 2018 in a university hospital.\r\nContent validity and reliability analysis were conducted.\r\nThe original scale was translated into Turkish and back\r\ninto English.\r\nResults: The Ordinal alpha was found 0.80, which refers\r\nto a good internal consistency. The Rasch analysis\r\ndemonstrated that the scale is unidimensional. The interitem\r\npolychoric correlation coefficient was equal to 0.61\r\nand every factor loadings in the Categorical Principal\r\nComponent Analysis were higher than 0.74.\r\nConclusion: Taking into consideration, The Turkish\r\nversion of the Patient Health Engagement Scale has good\r\npsychometric properties for evaluating the patient\r\nengagement phases and can be used by the Turkishspeaking\r\ncommunity.
