Abstract
The paper is devoted to developing an analysis of the contemporary process of self-destruction of humanity both as a species and as civilization. In a first step the attention is focused on COVID-19 pandemic, understood as a consequence of natural habitat destruction. In second step it looks at the catastrophic process defined as ‘sixth mass extinction’, considered in terms of philosophy of biology and in relation to the topic of ‘Anthropocene’. The third and fourth steps aim to give a philosophical-political account of the concept of ‘human self-destruction’ in his theoretical and historical peculiarities.
