Abstract
The paper deals with the origin of experimental pedagogy in Western Europe by analyzing the principal directions in the scientific debate between XIX and XX century giving particular attention to pedology and psychology contribution. The directions of the pedagogic experimentation in the main European scientific and university background are described with particular regard to Belgium considered as the cradle of experimental pedagogy.
