Abstract
The essay analyses Galileo's telescopic discoveries, criticising the interpretation of them provided by Mario Biagioli in his 'Galileo's Instruments of credit'. In particular, the paper shows how with the metaphor of the book of nature, Galileo intended to free everything from theological authority that could be demonstrated through experience and reason.
