Abstract
The new forms of slavery materialize in the illegal transfer of people across national borders or within a single country for the purpose of sexual exploitation, forced labor, domestic servitude, organ trafficking, and force marriages. Victims are often subjected to physical and psychological violence and forced to work under extremely precarious conditions. The causes are multiple and complex, often linked to situations of poverty, discrimination, violence, and income and social inequalities. From the New Testament to the 2020 encyclical Fratelli tutti, the Catholic Church has emphasized the importance of safeguarding human dignity and combating every form of exploitation.
