Abstract
News on Agostino Gerli and his family company. His role as
protagonist of the Neoclassical aesthetic transition · The paper shows an unrealeased part of Agostino Gerli’s biography. Gerli was an important and unconventional artist, a decorator, interior designer, and inventor, active in Lombardy between the xviii and xix centuries. The
paper analyzes Gerli’s long period of commitment with the marquis
Giuseppe Sigismondo Ala Ponzone and the following one, with his
favorite nephew marquis Carlo Camillo Carcano. This study on Gerli’s biography uses critically unpublished documents that offer a vivid
portrayal of the commitment of the local and city nobility in a period
of great changes of taste in arts.
